Who Madoff With the Money: SEC Investigation Into Madoff Investment Securities

The year is 2008. Bernie Madoff has worked his way up the chain of the securities industry from a humble penny stock broker to one of the world's most successful financiers as the founder of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities. However, after years of unprecedented success, ballooning Madoff into a multi-billionaire, there have been indications that Madoff and his associates have orchestrated a Ponzi scheme totaling around $65 billion in value in fraudulent earnings. First brought to the attention of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission's by Harry Markopolos, the SEC has since launched a full investigation into Madoff Investment Securities. It is the duty of this committee to find out the truth about the company's business practices and ensure that justice is served to the victims of the potential fraud.

Chair - philip ermanoski

Philip Ermanoski is a first year from McLean, Virginia, who intends to major in Commerce with a minor in Public Policy and Leadership. Philip has participated in Model UN since his junior year of high school and is currently a member of the UVA MUN travel team. He's also the USG Logistics for UVA's intergenerational-conference, VIGMUN, and has vice chaired for IRO's high school conference, VAMUN. Outside of Model UN, Philip enjoys participating in the Sales and Trading Group at McIntire and supporting the UVA community as a member of the University Judiciary Committee. His other interests include basketball (unenthusiastic Wizards fan), reading, Texas Hold’em, and going outdoors with friends. He is so excited to meet everyone and can't wait for the amazing VICS experience!

crisis director - zach geller

Zach Geller is a first-year student from Austin, Texas who is hoping to double major in Political Philosophy, Policy, and Law and Media Studies. He has lived in San Francisco, California, Osaka, Japan, and now Charlottesville, and is learning his fourth language. Zach has participated in Model UN since his freshman year of high school and has already been heavily involved with MUN at UVA, traveling to conferences and staffing a committee at this year's VAMUN conference. Outside of Model UN, Zach is a huge movie buff and music fan, and also loves watching and playing sports, basketball in particular. Around UVA, he is involved with Charlottesville Debate League, the Virginia Review of Politics, Cavalier Daily, and UVA Food Assist. He is super excited to welcome everybody to VICS and is looking forward to an awesome weekend!
